In 2012 Oliva refined it under an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper and named it Melanio, for Melanio Oliva, who grew tobacco in Cuba in the late 1800s; its Figurado was Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year for 2014. The Maduro came out one size at a time. Cigar Aficionado reported in May 2013 that it would launch at that July's IPCPR trade show as a single torpedo; halfwheel reports the Robusto and Churchill followed in April 2014, and Cigar Coop reported that Oliva showed the Toro and Double Toro at the 2021 Premium Cigar Association trade show. The Figurado is the limited-edition size: halfwheel reported the 2020 run at 7,000 boxes of 10, and that the Melanio Maduro took over Oliva's limited holiday role once Serie V Maduro became regular production.
