Byron was founded in Havana in 1850, as the packaging reads, and named for the English poet Lord Byron, an avid cigar smoker; Cigar Aficionado traces it to Alfonso's own ancestors, and Byron says the family recovered the name in 1998. Byron says its cigars rest for years after rolling, against the roughly 60 days it calls typical. Cigar Coop describes the 19th, 20th and 21st Century lines as one for each century the brand was active, each paying homage to that century's Cuban cigars; this is the Serie Siglo XIX.

Byron gives the blend as an Ecuadorian wrapper and binder over Nicaraguan ligero and seco with Peruvian volado, and Cigar Aficionado lists the same Ecuador, Peru and Nicaragua leaf. Byron rates every 19th Century size medium to full. The boxes are white lacquer, and each cigar wears a Lord Byron portrait band over a colored “RESERVA” band.

The Poemas is the 5 x 52 robusto of the 19th Century line, a size Byron's factory calls Robustos Supremos. Byron says it rests three years after rolling, and it wears a red “RESERVA” band. The Cigar Authority, a retailer, rated it 97 in December 2014, reviewing it at 4 7/8 x 52.

Size: 5 x 52 Robusto

Wrapper: Ecuadorian

Binder: Ecuadorian

Filler: Nicaraguan and Peruvian

Strength: Medium-Full

Origin: Tabacos de Costa Rica, Santiago de Puriscal, Costa Rica

Box: 25 cigars

Offered by the single, the five-pack or the box of 25.

Poemas Robusto FAQ

What does Byron 19th Century taste like? Byron has not published tasting notes.
