Padron Cigars For Sale — Nicaragua's Finest, In Stock
If Arturo Fuente is the Dominican Republic's greatest cigar story, Padron is Nicaragua's. José Orlando Padrón fled Cuba in 1961, arrived in the United States with next to nothing, and by 1964 had started a cigar company in Miami. Sixty years later, Padron is among the most respected names in the premium cigar industry — and the cigars haven't changed much. That's the point.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars, we stock Padron across multiple lines — the 1964 Anniversary Series, the Family Reserve, the Serie 1926, and the everyday Padron 2000/3000 series. If you're looking to buy Padron cigars online and have them arrive fresh and smoke-ready, you're in the right place.
The Padron Story
José Orlando Padrón grew up in Cuba in a tobacco-growing family. After the revolution, he made his way to Miami and eventually to Nicaragua, where he recognized the volcanic soil of the Jalapa Valley as ideal for growing world-class tobacco. He bought land, planted seeds, and started building.
In 1964 — exactly 100 years after his family began growing tobacco in Cuba — he released the Padron 1964 Anniversary Series. Today the company is led by his son Jorge Padrón. The blend formulations are essentially unchanged from their original releases. Cigar Aficionado has repeatedly rated Padron in the 96–100 point range, including the 2010 #1 Cigar of the Year: the Padron Family Reserve No. 85 Natural. Everything Padron makes is a Nicaraguan puro — wrapper, binder, and filler all grown on their own farms.
The Padron Lines We Carry
Padron 1964 Anniversary Series
The flagship. Available in Natural (sun-grown) and Maduro (fermented dark wrapper), both outstanding. Aged a minimum of four years before rolling. The Exclusivo (5½ x 50 Robusto) and Imperial (6 x 54 Toro) are the most popular vitolas. Strength: Medium-Full. Flavor: Dark cocoa, espresso, sweet earth, cedar. Maduro adds chocolate and sweetness; Natural has more pepper and wood.
Padron Family Reserve
The top of the Padron hierarchy. Every cigar in the Family Reserve line is aged a minimum of eight years — significantly more than the 1964. Production is limited and boxes are numbered. The No. 85 and No. 44 are standouts: dense, rich, and complex in a way that only comes from years of aging. Strength: Full. Flavor: Dark chocolate, espresso, leather, dried fruit. Best for: Collectors, special occasions, serious cigar aficionados.
Padron Serie 1926
The Serie 1926 commemorates the year José Padrón was born. Aged a minimum of five years, produced in limited quantities. Available in Natural and Maduro. The box-pressed format creates a unique draw experience, and the flavor profile pushes deeper and darker than the 1964. Strength: Full. Flavor: Rich earth, dark chocolate, oak, coffee.
Padron 2000 & 3000 Series
The everyday Padrons — a working man's premium cigar at a price that doesn't require a special occasion. The 3000 Maduro is one of the best value cigars in the industry: a consistent, well-constructed medium-full smoke for under $10. Strength: Medium to Medium-Full. Flavor: Earth, coffee, cedar, light pepper. Best for: Everyday smokes, buying by the box, introducing friends to Padron.
Damaso Series
The most approachable Padron line. The Damaso uses a milder Connecticut Shade wrapper over Nicaraguan filler, producing a medium-bodied smoke with cream, cedar, and soft spice. This is where new cigar smokers often start their Padron journey. Strength: Medium. Flavor: Cream, cedar, light spice. Best for: Newer cigar smokers, daytime smokes.
Why Buy Padron From Sun of a Gun?
Padron production is limited and allocated — retailers get a fixed supply each year and popular vitolas sell out fast. We stock both Natural and Maduro versions of key lines when possible. Same-day or next-day shipping on most orders before 2 PM MST. Free shipping on orders over $99. We answer questions by call or text from people who actually smoke cigars.
Frequently Asked Questions About Padron Cigars
What is the best Padron cigar to start with?
The Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo or Imperial, in Maduro. It's the gateway to what makes Padron special — aged Nicaraguan tobacco, rich construction, exceptional consistency — without spending Family Reserve prices. If you want something even more approachable, try the Padron 3000 Maduro first.
What's the difference between Padron 1964 Natural and Maduro?
Same blend, different wrapper. The Natural uses a sun-grown Nicaraguan wrapper producing a drier, spicier, more peppery profile. The Maduro uses a darker fermented wrapper that adds cocoa sweetness and softens the pepper. Most Padron fans have a strong preference for one or the other — though both are exceptional.
Are Padron cigars Cuban?
No. Padron cigars are made in Nicaragua. The founder José Orlando Padrón was Cuban-born, but after leaving Cuba in 1961, he built his operation in Nicaragua. All Padron tobacco — wrapper, binder, and filler — is grown on their Nicaraguan estates.
Why is the Padron Family Reserve so expensive?
Eight years of aging before rolling. Extended aging requires significant investment in storage, tobacco maintenance, and time. The result is a level of flavor complexity and smoothness that simply isn't achievable with younger tobacco. It's expensive for the same reason a 12-year-old Scotch costs more than a 3-year-old blend.
How do Padron cigars compare to Arturo Fuente?
They're very different expressions of premium tobacco. Fuente (especially Opus X) tends toward a more refined, sometimes fruit-forward profile. Padron is earthier, darker, and more intensely Nicaraguan in character. Both are benchmarks of their regions. Most serious smokers love both for different occasions.
