Short answer: Arturo Fuente Añejo is the Opus X core rolled in a Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper aged in cognac barrels. It is released in limited batches, historically around Father's Day and the holidays. See what is in the humidor on our Añejo page.
Born out of a hurricane
In 1998 Hurricane Georges tore through the Dominican Republic and destroyed barns holding Fuente Fuente Opus X wrapper. Rather than stop production, Carlos Fuente Jr. rolled the Opus X core in a darker Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that had been aging in cognac barrels. The result became a line of its own.
The blend
- Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro, aged in cognac barrels
- Binder and filler: Dominican
- Made at: Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia, Dominican Republic
Expect a rich, dark smoke: cocoa, espresso, dried fruit and a gentle sweetness off the barrel-aged wrapper.

Añejo or Opus X?
They share the Dominican heart of the Fuente reserve blends. Opus X wears a Dominican wrapper grown at Chateau de la Fuente and runs full and spicy. Añejo wears the barrel-aged Broadleaf and runs darker and sweeter. If you want both, start with the Añejo No. 50 and the Opus X Robusto.
