Liga Privada Guide: Every Line Compared

Drew Estate calls Liga Privada its love letter to the Connecticut River Valley. Since the line's inception in 2007, every Liga Privada has been handmade in a dedicated room at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate by a small, close-knit team of buncheros and rolleras, from tobaccos slowly aged through an 18 to 36 month fermentation. This guide compares each Liga Privada line we carry and links it to what is in our Yuma, Arizona walk-in humidor today: Liga Privada In Stock Now.

No. 9 vs T52

No. 9 came from nine original blends built to showcase Connecticut River Valley Broadleaf; the ninth emerged as the favorite. Drew Estate describes it as bold, smooth and complex, with deep notes of earth and espresso under a dark Broadleaf wrapper.

T52 is Drew Estate's signature stalk-cut Habano. Because the leaf is so thick, its wrapper ferments 30 to 36 months, and the blend reads as earth and black pepper with a long caramel finish.

Both share the same binder and filler and the same seven sizes: Coronets (4 x 32), Flying Pig (3 15/16 x 60, seasonal), Robusto (5 x 54), Corona Viva (6 x 46), Toro (6 x 52), Belicoso (6 x 52) and Corona Doble (7 x 54). Shop No. 9 or T52, or read our full No. 9 vs T52 comparison.

H99

Drew Estate calls H99 the third chapter of Liga Privada. Its hybrid wrapper joins Connecticut Corojo and T52 Habano, over a Mexican San Andres binder and filler from Nicaragua, Honduras and Pennsylvania. Expect an espresso core balanced by cedar and natural sweetness. Drew Estate's core sizes are the Robusto (5 x 54), Toro (6 x 52) and Super Ancho (6 x 60); we also list the H99 Corona Doble, Flying Pig, Lancero Phineas Gage and Papas Fritas. See every size on Liga Privada H99.

10 Aniversario

Made to mark ten years since No. 9's release, 10 Aniversario wears a Connecticut River Valley Criollo wrapper and delivers pepper, spice and sharp cheddar at full body. Two sizes: Robusto (5 x 54) and Toro (6 x 52).

The Unico Serie

Drew Estate's hard-hitting micro-blends, each a one-of-a-kind smoke. The Unico cigars we carry:

  • Dirty Rat (5 x 44): full-bodied and ferocious, in a T52 Habano wrapper.
  • Ratzilla (6 1/4 x 46): a creamier, velvety version of the Dirty Rat blend, T52 Habano wrapper.
  • L40 (7 x 40): an award-winning lancero showcasing the T52 wrapper.
  • Year of the Rat (5 1/2 x 46): made to commemorate the Florida Panthers' 1996 Stanley Cup season, No. 9 Broadleaf wrapper.
  • Velvet Rat (6 1/4 x 46): a longer Year of the Rat in No. 9 Broadleaf.
  • UF13 (5 1/4 x 52).
  • Feral Flying Pig (5 3/8 x 60): a larger version of the original Flying Pig, No. 9 Broadleaf wrapper.

Papas Fritas

Drew Estate designed Papas Fritas to deliver the core Liga Privada experience at a gentler price: trimmings from the No. 9, T52 and H99 blends, hand-sorted and hand-cut, in roughly a 30-minute smoke. Three sizes: Papas Fritas (4 1/4 x 43), Nasty Fritas (4 x 52) and H99 Papas Fritas (4 1/4 x 43).
