Pernod Absinthe Supérieure
Pernod Absinthe Supérieure is an absinthe verte from Pernod, made at the Caves Byrrh distillery in Thuir, France, and bottled at 68% ABV (136 proof). The 1805 on its label marks the year Henri-Louis Pernod founded Maison Pernod Fils in Pontarlier.
Grande wormwood from Pontarlier is joined by green anise, star anise, melissa, hyssop and petite wormwood, macerated in neutral wine spirit and then distilled. The label reads Recette Traditionnelle, sold in the US as Original Recipe. With water added, the nose is grassy and floral, with violet, fennel, coriander and aniseed; the palate is dry and slightly bitter, with woody wormwood, and the finish is long, woody and herbal.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (750 mL). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
