La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor

Mi Amor is the La Aroma de Cuba line in a San Andrés wrapper; Reserva and Noblesse wear San Andrés Oscuro. Mi Amor was introduced at the IPCPR trade show in 2010 and is made for brand owner Ashton Distributors by the Garcia family at My Father Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua. The maker describes a San Andrés wrapper over a vintage blend of Nicaraguan long-filler tobaccos, with dark chocolate, almond and espresso, cracked black pepper and hints of coconut, and labels it medium-full. Cigar Aficionado wrote in 2010 that every size in the line except the Valentino is box-pressed.

About La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor

Mi Amor Reserva followed in September 2012; the maker now lists it as La Aroma de Cuba Reserva. Its wrapper is what the maker calls an extensively fermented San Andrés Oscuro from the top priming, over well-aged Nicaraguan binder and filler, with dark chocolate, black pepper, hickory, leather and espresso, and the maker labels it full. Ashton's Sathya Levin told Cigar Aficionado in 2012 that Reserva was meant as a stronger, richer and more complex version of Mi Amor. In the Cigar Aficionado ratings we found, both lines ran medium to medium-full.

What to pour with Mi Amor

The maker lists no pairing for either line, so these are our house suggestions. Both wear dark San Andrés wrappers, and our whiskey guide sets a dark, cocoa-rich cigar beside a sherry-cask Scotch or an aged rum; from our bar, try the Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak or one of our aged rums. With the Reserva, which the maker labels full and describes with black pepper, a caramel-forward bourbon or a rye works too. More in the cigar and whiskey pairing guide.

Common questions

What is the difference between Mi Amor and Mi Amor Reserva? The wrapper and the strength label. Mi Amor wears a San Andrés leaf and the maker labels it medium-full; Reserva wears an extensively fermented San Andrés Oscuro from the top priming and is labeled full. Both are Nicaraguan inside.

Who makes La Aroma de Cuba Mi Amor? The Garcia family's My Father Cigars in Estelí, Nicaragua, for brand owner Ashton Distributors.

Is Mi Amor box-pressed? Cigar Aficionado reported in 2010 that every Mi Amor size except the Valentino is box-pressed, and in 2012 described the four launch Reserva sizes (Beso, Maximo, Divino and Romantico) as parejos with a slight box press.

Which Mi Amor cigars made the Top 25? In Cigar Aficionado's lists: the Magnifico (No. 6 for 2010), the Belicoso (No. 2 for 2011, No. 13 for 2016 and No. 9 for 2023), the Churchill (No. 15 for 2019) and the Reserva Maximo (No. 17 for 2013).
