Cigar Insider gave the box-pressed 6 x 54 AJ Fernandez New World Dorado Toro 91 points in October 2022 and rated it medium to full: a burst of citrus that calls to mind lemon curd, with horseradish, nuts and leather. halfwheel scored it 89 and noted a full strength profile in the final third.
Dorado, the fifth New World blend, reached stores in September 2022. Both the Cuban-seed wrapper, grown in full sun, and the Criollo '98 binder come from the Dorado farm, and the filler from Condega and Estelí; AJ Fernandez rolls it at his San Lotano factory in Ocotal, Nicaragua, in boxes of 10. A smaller sibling, the Dorado Robusto, earned 93 points and No. 14 on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 list for 2022.
When Dorado shipped, halfwheel listed four sizes in boxes of 10, this Toro among them, and a Corona joined in August 2023. Most of the tobacco comes from the Dorado farm in Estelí, a name AJ Fernandez chose for the golden look and taste of the leaf. Tasting notes
halfwheel's review of the Dorado Corona, a thinner size, opened on buttered rolls and a hint of mint before pepper took hold over an earthy base; late in the cigar a cake-donut sweetness appeared while the pepper stayed prominent.
