Macanudo was launched in 1968, halfwheel reports, and was made in Jamaica until General Cigar closed the Temple Hall factory in 2000 and moved production to the Dominican Republic. Macanudo Maduro is handcrafted there today. General Cigar describes the blend as a Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper over Mexican and Dominican Piloto Cubano filler, rates it mellow to medium, and lists cinnamon, chocolate, coffee and cedar. Cigar Aficionado reported in 2000 that General Cigar had switched the Maduro wrapper from Mexican San Andrés Negro to Connecticut broadleaf.
