The Cuesta-Rey Centenario Robusto No. 7 Natural is a 4½ x 50 robusto in a Connecticut Shade wrapper over Dominican binder and filler, rolled for J.C. Newman at Tabacalera A. Fuente in the Dominican Republic. J.C. Newman ages the tobacco up to five years in a cedar room, rates the Centenario line mild, and describes the smoke as ultra-smooth and creamy.
Cuesta-Rey dates to 1884, when Angel LaMadrid Cuesta founded the brand; Peregrino Rey joined him a few years later, and Cuesta-Rey was once the official cigar of King Alfonso XIII of Spain. J.C. Newman has owned the brand since 1958, and the Centenario box still reads "Gold Medal Awarded, Panama-Pacific Exposition 1915."
