Cigar Aficionado reported the arrival of Arturo Fuente Rosado Sungrown Magnum R in December 2009 as a three-cigar line, the 52, 54 and 56, each named for its ring gauge; Fuente's own site says the line was originally released in four sizes. Fuente culls the exclusive Rosado Sungrown wrapper from the lower primings of Ecuadorian tobacco plants and ages it for nearly a decade, and rolls it over Dominican binder and filler at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. At the launch, Carlos Fuente Jr. told Cigar Aficionado he wanted an old-school, balanced, elegant smoke; Fuente describes a creamier, smoother cigar with a distinctive sweet finish.

Why are they called Magnum R 52, 54 and so on? Fuente names each size for its ring gauge: the 52 is a 52 ring, the 58 a 58 ring, the Super 60 a 60 ring. The 44 is the exception, a 47 ring packed 44 to a box.
What is a Rosado Sungrown wrapper? Fuente's exclusive Ecuadorian leaf, culled from the lower primings of the plant and aged for nearly a decade before rolling. Cigar Aficionado's 2009 launch report describes a reddish-brown wrapper.
