Padrón Natural vs. Maduro, and the Sizes That Match Across Lines

Every Padrón Series, 1964, 1926 and Family Reserve size comes in Natural and Maduro. What changes from line to line, which sizes match exactly across lines, and the Padrón 2000 vs. 3000.

Short answer: every size in the Padrón Series, 1964 Anniversary, 1926 Serie and Family Reserve is made in both a Natural and a Maduro wrapper, and here each pair is the same price. What really separates the lines is the age of the tobacco: at least two and a half years for the Padrón Series, four for the 1964, five for the 1926 and ten for the Family Reserve, per Padrón.

Natural or Maduro: what changes

  • Both wrappers, every size. Padrón lists every size of the Padrón Series, 1964 Anniversary, 1926 Serie and Family Reserve in Natural and Maduro. For the 1964, 1926 and Family Reserve, Padrón's wording is "sun-grown natural and maduro wrappers."
  • Body is set by the line, not the wrapper. Padrón's own pages describe the 1926 Serie and the Family Reserve as full-bodied and the Dámaso as mild to medium; they do not call either wrapper stronger.
  • The one exception is the Dámaso. It comes in a single wrapper, Ecuadorian Connecticut, the only Padrón line without a Natural or Maduro choice.
  • The simplest way to choose is side by side. Every size below is sold here as a single in both wrappers at the same price, so a Natural and a Maduro of the same cigar cost the same to compare.

What a maduro wrapper is, and how it differs from a natural leaf across all brands, is covered in our Maduro vs. Natural guide.

The Padrón lines, step by step

Line Tobacco age (per Padrón) Wrappers Sizes Padrón makes Singles here, October 2026
Dámaso Not stated Ecuadorian Connecticut 6 $14.99 (No. 15)
Padrón Series At least 2½ years Natural, Maduro 15 $9.99 to $13.99
1964 Anniversary 4 years Sun-grown Natural, Maduro 16 $15.99 to $26.99
1926 Serie 5 years Sun-grown Natural, Maduro 10 $17.99 to $41.99
Family Reserve 10 years Sun-grown Natural, Maduro 7 $25.99 to $39.99; the 60th Anniversary Perfecto $79.99
Padrón Black Not stated Natural, Maduro (No. 97) Not stated; we carry No. 97 and No. 99 $45.99

Each step up uses older tobacco. Padrón's Cigar Aficionado Cigars of the Year come from three of these lines: the 1964 Anniversary Torpedo (2021), the 1926 Serie No. 40 (2004) and No. 9 (2007), the Family Reserve No. 45 (2009) and the 60th Anniversary (2025). The 1964 and 1926 are box-pressed, per Padrón; how the two compare is in our 1964 vs. 1926 guide.

Same size, different line

These sizes share an exact length and ring gauge across lines, so the difference you taste is the line, not the shape of the smoke.

Size Padrón Series 1964 Anniversary 1926 Serie Family Reserve
5½ x 50 — Exclusivo, $17.99 No. 47 (Natural, Maduro), $20.99 —
5½ x 52 3000, $10.99; 6000 Torpedo, $12.99 — No. 90 Tubo, $30.99 —
5½ x 56 5000, $12.99 — — No. 46, $32.99
6 x 52 — Torpedo, $21.99 — No. 44 Torpedo, $39.99; No. 45, $32.99

Dimensions are Padrón's. Shapes within a row can differ: the 6000 and No. 44 are torpedoes and the No. 90 comes in a tube. Prices are our listed singles in October 2026, the same for Natural and Maduro; current prices are on each product page. Every Padrón size, including the Series 4000 and 1926 No. 40 (both 6½ x 54), is grouped by ring gauge in our Padrón size chart.

Close, but not identical

Padrón 2000 vs. 3000

Both are Padrón Series cigars, made from tobacco aged at least two and a half years and offered in Natural or Maduro. The 2000 is 5 x 50; the 3000 is 5½ x 52, half an inch longer and two ring gauges wider. At our listed prices in October 2026, singles are $9.99 for the 2000 and $10.99 for the 3000, and both come 26 to a box.

Do critics score Padrón Natural or Maduro higher?

Neither wrapper wins across the board. Where the same Padrón has been rated in both wrappers, the scores sit within a few points, and the higher one changes sides from cigar to cigar.

Cigar (size per Padrón) Natural Maduro
Padrón Series 2000 (5 x 50) 91, Cigar Aficionado, June 2025 92, Cigar Aficionado, April 2023
Padrón Series 6000 Torpedo (5½ x 52) 93, Cigar Aficionado, October 2024 93, Cigar Aficionado, April 2017
Family Reserve No. 45 (6 x 52) 95, No. 4 on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 for 2010 95, Cigar Aficionado's Cigar of the Year for 2009
Family Reserve No. 96 (5¾ x 52) 89, halfwheel, June 2023 91, halfwheel, July 2023

Cigar Aficionado's Padrón Cigars of the Year split the same way: the Family Reserve No. 45 that took the title for 2009 was a Maduro, while the 1964 Anniversary Torpedo for 2021 and the 60th Anniversary for 2025 were Naturals.

Which Padrón wrapper is stronger in reviews?

It depends on the cigar. Cigar Aficionado lists the Family Reserve No. 45 Maduro as full and the Natural as medium-full. halfwheel's reviews of the Family Reserve No. 96 went the other way: the Natural reached full strength by its second third, while the Maduro peaked at medium-full near the end. The reviewer of the No. 96 Natural also found it spicier than nearly any Padrón Natural in memory.

Which Padrón sizes are in stock in both wrappers?

In October 2026 these sizes were on our shelves in both Natural and Maduro, sold by the single. Counts change daily, and each product page shows live stock.

Three were in one wrapper only: the Family Reserve No. 95 in Maduro, the Padrón Black No. 99 in Natural and the 1926 No. 80 in Natural. For a fair side-by-side, smoke one single of each wrapper in the same size on the same day.

What should I drink with a Padrón Maduro or Natural?

Our pairing nights in the Yuma lounge have matched a Padrón 1964 Maduro with an aged rum, and our pairing approach sets full-bodied spirits beside robust cigars such as the Padrón 1926. House suggestion: the sweeter, darker Maduro meets a rum or a caramel-rich bourbon, and the drier Natural sits well beside rye. More in our cigar and whiskey pairing guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is Padrón Maduro stronger than Natural?
