What each line tastes like

  • Java: Rocky Patel calls the Latte and the Maduro "the perfect companion to a rich cup of joe." The Maduro is the original Java, introduced in 2006, and the Latte followed in 2007. A 2011 Rocky Patel release, published by halfwheel, describes the Mint as "slightly infused with a lively mint flavor as well as mocha and vanilla essence," and the company's 2017 announcement of the Red described cherry first, then dark cocoa and coffee.
  • Tabak Especial: Drew Estate calls the Negra its dark roast, with earth, chocolate and espresso, and models the Dulce on café con leche, with coffee, cream and milk chocolate. The Nicaraguan filler is infused with coffee under a Sumatran binder, and Drew Estate says the coffee, like the tobacco, comes from northern Nicaragua. It has paired coffee and cigars under the Tabak Especial name since 2002.
  • Isla del Sol: Drew Estate builds it on "the deep chocolate notes of Sumatra Mandheling coffee beans," coupled with the dark air-cured tobaccos of Nicaragua, and halfwheel reported that both blends have a sweet tip. Drew Estate describes the Sun Grown as smooth and exotic, with coffee and sweetness, and calls the Maduro "The Everyday Dark Roast," lush and chocolatey, with coffee and mocha.
  • M by Macanudo Espresso: General Cigar shipped it to retailers in August 2021, building the blend around café con leche and café macchiato. The Nicaraguan filler is infused with espresso, under a binder from the Philippines, and General Cigar describes it as coffee balanced by a touch of cream, with the character of a premium Nicaraguan cigar.

Choosing a coffee cigar

Start with how you take your coffee.

Coffee cigar prices

Prices as listed in October 2026; each product page shows the current price and live stock.

What to drink with a coffee cigar

The makers suggest coffee first. Rocky Patel pairs the Java Latte and Maduro with a rich cup of coffee, and its 2017 announcement of the Java Red suggested an aperitif such as a Negroni or a Manhattan. Drew Estate suggests an iced Americano or a coffee liqueur with Tabak Especial, and an iced mocha or a coffee liqueur with Isla del Sol.

House suggestions from our bar: an espresso martini, The Velvet Voice (espresso and vodka) or El Cubano (aged tequila and espresso) beside the darker blends, and a smooth Irish whiskey beside the mellow Isla del Sol. See the Pairing Menu, the cocktail menu and our liqueurs and cordials.

Coffee notes without the infusion

Coffee is also a tasting note in many traditional cigars, especially under a dark wrapper, where it comes from the tobacco alone; see maduro cigars. Drew Estate's Deadwood Sweet Jane is infused, and Drew Estate describes it with coffee, cedar and chocolate. Macanudo Café is not a coffee cigar: Café is the name of the blend Macanudo calls "the cigar that started it all," a Connecticut Shade wrapper over a Mexican San Andrés binder, and Macanudo lists its flavors as sweetness, cream, nuts and wood.

Keeping coffee cigars fresh

Keep coffee cigars at a steady 65 to 70 percent relative humidity, in a humidor or a sealed bag with a two-way humidity pack. Coffee aroma travels, so give them their own box, drawer or humidor, away from unflavored cigars. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack, and our cigar storage guide covers the rest.

Popular picks

Common questions

What are coffee cigars? Cigars infused with coffee, so the coffee is carried in the tobacco. Every cigar on this page is coffee-infused: Java by Rocky Patel, Drew Estate's Tabak Especial and Isla del Sol, and M by Macanudo Espresso.

Are coffee-flavored and coffee-infused cigars the same? The words are used loosely. In general use, an infused cigar takes the coffee into the tobacco while it cures or ages, and a flavored cigar carries the taste on the cap or the wrapper. All four lines here are coffee-infused, and Isla del Sol adds a sweet tip.

Is there real coffee in coffee cigars? Drew Estate describes Tabak Especial as roasted coffee married to dark air-cured tobacco, both from northern Nicaragua, and builds Isla del Sol on Sumatra Mandheling coffee beans. General Cigar says the M by Macanudo Espresso filler is infused with espresso.

What is the mildest coffee cigar? Java Latte, which Rocky Patel rates Mild, and Tabak Especial Dulce and both Isla del Sol blends, which Drew Estate rates mellow.

What is the difference between Java and Tabak Especial? The brand and the blends. Java is Rocky Patel's line, made by Drew Estate, in Latte, Maduro, Mint and Red. Tabak Especial is Drew Estate's own, in the darker Negra and the creamier Dulce, plus Cafe con Leche.

Which coffee cigars come in tins? The Java x-press in Maduro and Mint, the Tabak Especial Cafecita Negra and the Isla del Sol Breve, all 4 x 32.

How much are coffee cigars? As listed in October 2026, singles run from $8.99 (Isla del Sol) to $15.99 (the Tabak Especial Gordito), tins from $18.99 to $35.99, and boxes from $75.90 to $335.60 for the Java Petite Corona box of 40.

Is Macanudo Café a coffee cigar? No. Café is the name of Macanudo's original Connecticut Shade blend, with flavors Macanudo lists as sweetness, cream, nuts and wood. The coffee-infused Macanudo is M by Macanudo Espresso.

How should I store coffee cigars? At 65 to 70 percent relative humidity, apart from unflavored cigars, since coffee aroma travels. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack.

How much is shipping? $9.99 flat, free on orders of $125 or more.
