Cohiba Black Cigars

Cohiba Black is the maduro U.S.-market Cohiba that General Cigar created in 2006. Cigar Aficionado reported in June 2006 that it would debut at that July's Retail Tobacco Dealers of America trade show, and Cigar Insider rated the Cohiba Black Robusto that August. Cohiba calls it "An espresso of a cigar with a deep, lustrous wrapper." Cigar Aficionado's ratings list the Dominican Republic as its country.

About Cohiba Black Cigars

It is not a Cuban cigar. Since February 2, 2026, U.S.-market Cohiba has been sold by Forged Cigar Co., a Scandinavian Tobacco Group company (halfwheel; Cigar Coop); before that, General Cigar, also part of the group, distributed it (Cigar Aficionado). Cigar Aficionado says the Cuban company Cubatabaco "owns the Cohiba name and the rights to market Cohiba internationally." Our guide explains why Cuban cigars are illegal in the U.S.

Cohiba Black blend and sizes

Cohiba lists a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, a Dominican Piloto Cubano binder "aged in Tercios for three years," and filler of Dominican Piloto Cubano and Mexican San Andrés, also aged three years in tercios.

We found no pairing from Cohiba. From our bar, our house suggestion for an "espresso of a cigar": an aged rum, a tawny port or a barrel-proof bourbon. See maduro vs. natural cigars for more on maduro wrappers.
