Reserva Real Nicaragua and the Midnight Twist

Reserva Real Nicaragua is the all-Nicaraguan take on the line. Cigar Aficionado reported that it began shipping in March 2020 and that it is rolled at Tabacalera AJ Fernandez in Estelí from tobacco grown on A.J. Fernandez's farms, with a blend developed by A.J. Fernandez and Altadis master blender Rafael Nodal. Altadis says the Midnight Twist uses a dual-cloak Nicaraguan wrapper developed at the AJ Fernandez factory, meant as an evening counterpart to the original Reserva Real Nicaragua. What is a barberpole cigar?

A cigar rolled with two wrapper leaves of different shades twisted together, so the stripes spiral around it like a barber's pole. On the Midnight Twist, the two leaves are Habano and Maduro. Altadis also makes a Dominican Reserva Real Twisted with Ecuadorian Habano and Ecuadorian Connecticut shade leaves, which we don't list online.
