About Cigar Boxes

Box or singles: what a box saves

On each cigar below, the box costs less per cigar than the single. Prices are as listed in October 2026; each product page shows the current price and live stock.

The saving is not the same on every line. On the everyday cigars it is a few dollars a cigar: $3.20 on the Hemingway Short Story Natural and $2.11 on the Padrón Series 2000. On an allocated cigar such as the Opus X Lost City Robusto, the box and the single come within a dollar a cigar of each other.

How many cigars come in a box?

Most boxes hold 20 or 25 cigars, and boxes of 10 and 24 are common too. Twenty-five is the traditional count: Cigar Aficionado notes that U.S. laws in 1865 required cigars to be packed in wooden boxes of 25, 50, 100 or 250. On this page, the Padrón Thousand Series comes 26 to a box, the Arturo Fuente Hemingway mostly 25, Liga Privada No. 9 24 (the Flying Pig 12), and the Padrón Family Reserve and most Opus X Lost City sizes 10. Our guide How Many Cigars Are in a Box? counts every box size in our catalog.

Keeping a box fresh

A full box needs a home at the right humidity. Cigar Aficionado says some smokers feel cigars kept in their original boxes inside a humidor benefit most with age, and that collectors often age cigars in their boxes to keep like cigars together. It also warns that in a very large box holding few cigars, the cigars can take on too much humidity. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack. For the box itself, see humidors, Boveda packs and our cigar storage guide.

A box as a gift

A gift box can be one cigar in quantity or an assortment. The Opus X Lost City 5-Cigar Assortment ($229) and the Don Carlos Edición de Aniversario 5-Cigar Assortment ($200) come boxed, as listed in October 2026. See our cigar gift guide, rare cigar gifts and cigar samplers.
