Short answer: allocated bourbon is whiskey a distillery releases in limited quantities, divided among distributors and then among stores. In Yuma, the way to get first word on these bottles at Sun of a Gun is to join our VIP Bottle List.
What does allocated mean?
When demand for a whiskey far outstrips supply, the distillery decides how many bottles each distributor receives, and each distributor decides how many each store receives. A store might get a single bottle of a given release, or none. That is why the most sought-after bourbons rarely sit on a shelf.
Bottles people hunt for
Names that are commonly allocated include Pappy Van Winkle, the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, Blanton's, Weller, E.H. Taylor and Stagg. Availability changes release to release, and we never know exactly what our allocation will hold until it arrives.
