About Plasencia Cigars
The Plasencia family
Plasencia traces its start to 1865, when Don Eduardo Plasencia began growing tobacco in Vuelta Abajo, Cuba. The family left Cuba in 1965 and rebuilt in Jalapa, Nicaragua, moved to Danlí and the Jamastrán Valley in Honduras in 1978, and returned to Nicaragua in 1990. Today it farms across Nicaragua (Condega, Estelí, the Jalapa Valley and Ometepe Island) and Honduras (Jamastrán, Talanga and Azacualpa), and Cigar Aficionado reported in 2024 that it keeps factories in both countries.
For decades Plasencia was known chiefly as a grower and maker for other companies. The family says more than 30 brands have it produce their cigars, and Cigar Aficionado has named Rocky Patel, Alec Bradley, Ferio Tego and some Romeo y Julieta among its clients. The family dates Plasencia Cigars, its own brand, to 2017, under the fifth generation: Néstor Andrés, Gustavo and José Luis Plasencia. Cigar Aficionado covered its first line, Alma Fuerte, in October 2016, and the magazine's 2024 profile describes Néstor Andrés as the man in charge.
Plasencia Reserva Original

Plasencia calls it the world's first and only fully OCIA-certified organic cigar, with Nicaraguan wrapper, binder and filler, and describes the blend as medium-bodied and harmonious, with caramel, cocoa, marzipan and nuts over a smooth cedar finish. halfwheel reports that the leaf is aged for at least five years.

What certified organic means
OCIA is an organic certifier, and organic rules prohibit synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides; OCIA notes that conventional farms need a three-year transition before their crops can be certified. Cigar Aficionado's 2024 profile describes Plasencia's organic tobacco as grown with organic fertilizers and no synthetic pesticides.
