You need less than the internet suggests: something to cut with, something to light with, and something to keep cigars at the right humidity. Everything past that is preference.
Cutters
A sharp straight cutter handles nearly every cigar. A V-cut gives a more concentrated draw and, per Boveda, works on most shapes and ring gauges; punches are tidy and pocketable but will not work on tapered heads. See our cutter guide.
Lighters
Butane only — torch or soft flame. Fluid lighters leave their taste in the cigar. Torches relight quickly outdoors; soft flames are gentler on the foot. We carry Prometheus torches among others.
Humidors and humidity packs
A sealed, cedar-lined box plus a 69% humidity pack covers most collections. An airtight container with the right pack works too. Details in the humidor guide and the humidity pack guide.
Ashtrays
Cigars need a deep, wide rest — a cigarette ashtray will not hold a toro. Look for a stirrup that supports the cigar without crushing the wrapper.
Cases and travel humidors
