Liga Privada 10 Aniversario is Drew Estate's tribute to a decade of Liga Privada: a full-bodied blend built around a heavy Criollo wrapper grown for Drew Estate in the Connecticut River Valley. It debuted at the 2018 trade show as a single 6 x 52 toro with a fishtail cap and a closed foot, and halfwheel ranked it No. 22 in its Top 25 for 2019. The blend
Drew Estate lists a Connecticut Criollo hybrid wrapper over a Mexican San Andrés Otapan Negro binder, with filler from Nicaragua and Pennsylvania Green River One Sucker. It rates the cigar full-bodied and describes "sharp cheddar, with wave after wave of peppery spice in every pull." Master blender Willy Herrera and the team at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua built it; at its launch Herrera said the Connecticut Criollo harvests had been fermented at the factory and the cigars aged for the celebration.
From lottery to monthly allocation
The first run was 1,000 boxes of the Toro. halfwheel reports that Drew Estate shipped them 40 boxes a month, to Drew Diplomat retailers picked by lottery, four boxes each, beginning in December 2018. In June 2022 it moved into regular production as a monthly allocation for qualifying Drew Diplomat retailers, and that August Drew Estate began bringing the Robusto to its events.
10 Aniversario, No. 9, T52 or H99?
The wrapper sets each Liga apart: Connecticut Broadleaf on the No. 9, stalk-cut Connecticut Habano on the T52, a Connecticut Corojo hybrid on the H99, and Connecticut Criollo on the 10 Aniversario. The H99 launched in the same 2018 season, the first two new Liga Privada lines since 2010, per halfwheel.
