Alfonso Añejos No. 5 Churchill is the 7 1/2 x 58 Churchill in the Alfonso Añejos line.

Alfonso Añejos is made by Selected Tobacco, the Costa Rican house founded by Nelson Alfonso, the Havana-born designer credited with the Cohiba Behike branding, and the brand carries his family name. It is rolled at Tabacos de Costa Rica in Santiago de Puriscal. Previewed at the 2022 PCA trade show, it began shipping in late September 2022 as the first Alfonso line in the United States; many US retailers call it Alfonso Extra Añejo. Nelson Alfonso has described it as a hybrid of his Atabey and Byron lines. The first US release came from 2017 production: five years of rest in cedar rooms, then a final stage in rooms lined with French oak. “Cedar is to cigars as oak is to wine,” he has said.

Cigar Coop, halfwheel and Cigar Journal give the blend as an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper over an Ecuadorian Connecticut binder, with Peruvian and Nicaraguan ligero in the filler. Selected Tobacco prints its series name, “Producción Limitada,” on the boxes and tube packs, and Cigar Coop reports that the boxes of 25 reached US shops in two styles, a dress box and a rustic wood box. The first US shipment was 200 boxes of each size.
