Averna Amaro
Averna Amaro is an Amaro Siciliano from Fratelli Averna in Caltanissetta, Sicily, bottled at 29% ABV (58 proof). Its herbal recipe was given to Salvatore Averna by Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Santo Spirito.
Production began in 1868, and the recipe has not changed since: an infusion of aromatic herbs, dried flowers, spices and licorice.
Cola, bitter orange and herbal bark meet jasmine and quinine on the nose. The palate is bittersweet, with orange zest, mocha, licorice, gentian, caramel and rosemary, and the finish returns to licorice, cola, cacao and orange zest, with gentian lingering at the end.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (750 mL). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
