Basil Hayden Bourbon
Basil Hayden Bourbon is a high-rye Kentucky straight bourbon from James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). Booker Noe created it in 1992 as part of the Small Batch collection.
The name honors Meredith Basil Hayden Sr., a Maryland rye farmer who moved to Kentucky in 1792 and distilled with a higher share of rye. In the glass, charred oak, vanilla, caramel and dried fruit form the nose; the palate brings charred oak again with brown sugar, black pepper and dried fruit, and charred oak lingers on the finish with a touch of dried fruit.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (1 L). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
