elderberry, papaya, stone fruit, hint of black pepper

Bozal Cenizo Maguey Mezcal is a single-maguey joven mezcal artesanal from Durango, distilled entirely from cenizo (Agave durangensis) and bottled at 47% ABV, or 94 proof.

The agave is cooked in earthen pit ovens and crushed by a horse-drawn stone tahona. Fermentation takes place in open-air tanks with only naturally occurring yeasts, and the mezcal is then distilled twice.

Bozal publishes a palate note only: elderberry, papaya and stone fruit, touched with a hint of black pepper.

At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (750 mL). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
