El Jolgorio Barril Mezcal
El Jolgorio Barril Mezcal is a mezcal artesanal from the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, distilled from barril, a Karwinskii-family agave. El Jolgorio was begun by the Cortés family in 2010 as a collective of Oaxacan mezcal families.
Barril grows wild at high elevations and forms an elongated, stalk-shaped heart that is dense in sugar and low in moisture. Every bottle is hand-marked with its batch details, naming the producer, village, agave age and bottle count, and strength can differ from lot to lot. The importer's general profile points to sweetness, citrus and minerality.
