Empress 1908 Indigo Gin
Empress 1908 Indigo Gin was launched in 2017 by Victoria Distillers in Sidney, British Columbia, inspired by the Fairmont Empress Hotel, in Victoria since 1908, and its afternoon tea. It is bottled at 42.5% ABV (85 proof).
Eight botanicals go into the gin; the producer names butterfly pea blossom, its signature Empress black tea blend, juniper, grapefruit peel and rose petals. The indigo hue is all-natural, from butterfly pea blossom infused after distillation, and it shifts to lavender, pink or fuchsia when citrus or tonic is added.
Wet herbs, cracked pepper, juniper and rose petal lead the nose. The texture is soft, with herbal earthiness, citrus, florals and tea, before a subtle juniper finish.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (1 L). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
