Michter's US1 Sour Mash American Whiskey

Michter's US1 Sour Mash American Whiskey is distilled and bottled in Kentucky and released in small batches at 86 proof. Michter's notes that its grain selection places it in neither the bourbon nor the rye category, and it matures in fire-charred new American white oak barrels.

As the name suggests, it follows the sour mash process, in which previously fermented mash starts each new fermentation. Toasted burnt sugar and spice lead the nose; smoky fruit, candied cherries and honeyed vanilla follow, and the finish moves from a bourbon-like start to rye-like spice.
