Montelobos Pechuga Mezcal is a mezcal artesanal from Rancho Loma Larga in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, made from organically cultivated espadín by maestros mezcaleros Iván Saldaña and Guadalupe García at Palenque Montelobos. Its third distillation is made with a turkey breast, seasonal fruits and spices.

Ahead of that final pass, the agave is roasted in a conical underground stone oven, milled by a mule-drawn stone tahona, wild-fermented in open pine vats and distilled in copper stills over direct wood fire.

Orange peel, pumpkin in tacha and nutmeg open the nose. Tropical fruit, roasted almond and maple honey follow, and the finish is long, velvety and herbal, with gentle smoke.

At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (750 mL).
