RD One Amburana Finish Bourbon
RD One Amburana Finish Bourbon is a small-batch Kentucky straight bourbon from RD1 Spirits in Lexington, aged four years or more and then finished with staves of Brazilian Amburana wood set inside the barrel. It is bottled at 110 proof (55% ABV).
RD1's partner cooperage drills the Amburana staves in a honeycomb pattern to increase contact between wood and whiskey. Founded in 2020, RD1 honors Lexington's first federally registered distillery of 1865, and it introduced this bourbon in April 2023 as one of two wood-finished releases. Apple cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar lead the nose with pine, vanilla, peach and apricot. Spice cake and gingersnaps follow on a rich palate, and the long, warm finish shows allspice and sweet oak.
