Zacapa No. 23 Solera Rum
Zacapa No. 23 Solera Rum is a Guatemalan rum made from the first press of sugar cane and bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). Rather than carrying a single age statement, it is a blend of rums aged between 6 and 23 years through Zacapa's take on the Sistema Solera.
Aging takes place at 2,300 meters, "Above the Clouds," where the altitude slows maturation, in casks that once held American whiskey, sherry and Pedro Ximénez wine.
Caramel, vanilla, cacao and butterscotch open the nose, joined by roasted nuts, toffee, banana and dried pineapple. The palate brings dried fruit and apricot over oak, nutmeg, leather, tobacco, coffee, cinnamon and ginger, closing on honeyed butterscotch, spiced oak and dried fruit.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (1 L). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
