Arturo Fuente Cigars: A Guide to Opus X, Hemingway, Don Carlos and More

Arturo Fuente started rolling cigars in Tampa in 1912. More than a century later the family still grows its own tobacco in the Dominican Republic and rolls by hand at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia.

Arturo Fuente started rolling cigars in Tampa in 1912. More than a century later the family still grows its own tobacco in the Dominican Republic and rolls by hand at Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. This guide covers the Fuente lines in our Yuma humidor, with the wrappers taken from our own product pages.

Fuente Fuente Opus X

Launched in 1995, Opus X was the first premium cigar to use a Dominican-grown wrapper, from the Fuente family's Chateau de la Fuente estate. It is full-bodied and allocated: Arturo Fuente decides how many each retailer receives.

We stock the core PerfecXion sizes plus Oro Oscuro, Angel's Share and the Heaven and Earth releases, and Opus X Lost City, grown for the filming of The Lost City at the estate. Browse Opus X Cigars.

Hemingway

The Hemingway line is Fuente's family of perfectos, tapered at the foot and closed at the head. Natural wears an African Cameroon wrapper, Maduro a Connecticut Broadleaf, and select sizes come Sun Grown. Sizes run from the 4 x 49 Short Story to the 9 x 52 Masterpiece. See Hemingway or our size-by-size guide.

Don Carlos

The cigar Carlos Fuente Sr. blended for himself, made since 1976. Classic Don Carlos wears an African Cameroon wrapper over Dominican binder and filler and smokes medium-bodied, with cedar, cream and nuts. The Edición de Aniversario swaps the Cameroon for a Dominican shade-grown wrapper from Chateau de la Fuente. See Don Carlos.

Arturo Fuente Añejo

Born after Hurricane Georges destroyed barns of Opus X wrapper in 1998: the Opus X core rolled in a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper aged in cognac barrels. Dark and sweet, released in limited batches. See Añejo.

Chateau Fuente and Gran Reserva

The everyday Fuentes, and the right place to start. Chateau Fuente, Double Chateau, Royal Salute and the King sizes in Natural, Maduro and Sun Grown; Gran Reserva covers Flor Fina 8-5-8, Curly Head, Rothschilds, Exquisitos and Cañones. See all Arturo Fuente.

Casa Cuba and Magnum R

Casa Cuba wears an Ecuadorian Havana wrapper in five Doble sizes. Magnum R uses an Ecuadorian Rosado Sungrown wrapper in six ring gauges from 47 to 60.

Yes. Most sizes are sold as a single, a 5-pack or a box. Allocated releases may be limited per customer.

What makes Opus X hard to find?

Arturo Fuente allocates it. The number of cigars each retailer receives is set by the factory, not by what the shop orders.

Which Fuente should I start with?
