Opus X 20th vs. 25th Anniversary: The Blue Band and the Green Band

How the blue-banded OpusX 20 Years Celebration and the green-banded OpusX 25 Aniversario differ: sizes, release history, wrapper and what is in our humidor.

Short answer: Fuente has marked two OpusX anniversaries with their own bands. The blue-banded 20 Years Celebration came in four sizes for the twentieth, and the green-banded 25 Aniversario followed with El Tributo and La Familia for the twenty-fifth. The original OpusX keeps its red band. We carry the 20 Years Celebration Power of the Dream.

Prices are our singles in October 2026; each product page shows the current price and count.

The blue band: 20 Years Celebration

Cigar Aficionado reports that OpusX made its commercial debut in New York in November 1995, and that the 20 Years Celebration reached stores a year later than planned. Instead of the classic red, its bands and boxes are blue. Carlos Fuente Jr. told the magazine that blue was the color of the earliest Fuente labels, and that the wavy design on the box stands for the river beside Chateau de la Fuente, where the wrapper is grown.

Size Dimensions Box
Believe 5¾ x 52 20
Father & Son 6¼ x 49 20
God's Whisper 6½ x 56 20
Power of the Dream 6⅜ x 52 torpedo 20

The blend is not the regular OpusX. Cigar Aficionado reports the wrapper comes from the third priming rather than the darker upper primings, with some filler from another farm grown only for Fuente, and halfwheel describes the wrapper as lighter than standard OpusX. halfwheel also reported that many retailers received only one box of each size.

The rest of the twentieth

halfwheel reports that Prometheus marked the same anniversary with a run of collector pieces, including an Opus22 box for the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, the FFOX6 sampler, 200 Father and Son humidors, and an OpusX Original Belicoso rolled in 1994 and aged twenty years. Opus22 and Opus6 have returned in later releases: we carry the 2025 Opus22 and the Opus6 Travel Humidor.

The green band: 25 Aniversario

Cigar Aficionado reports that smokers call the line Opus Green or Opus 25. It wears a green OpusX band with a second band marked Opus 25, and Carlos Fuente Jr. wrote a dedication to his father, Carlos Fuente Sr., who died in 2016, on each box lid. The magazine describes the wrapper as a lighter hybrid of the original Corojo seed and a seed Fuente developed, grown and rolled in the Dominican Republic.

  • El Tributo. A 7 x 50 Churchill and the first cigar of the line. It debuted in 2021 sold only inside two Elie Bleu humidors: Cigar Aficionado lists a 25-cigar desktop model at $9,250 and a 150-cigar cabinet at $70,000. In 2025 it reached retailers on its own in wooden boxes of 25, at a suggested price Cigar Aficionado put at about $50 a cigar. Cigar Coop scored it 90 in August 2026.
  • La Familia. A perfecto, first shown at the 2024 PCA trade show in coffins, per halfwheel. Cigar Coop reports a limited allotment reached select retailers late in 2024, most of them receiving a single box. Fuente did not publish the size: Cigar Aficionado lists it at 6¼ x 52, while Cigar Coop measured about 6¾ x 60. Cigar Insider and Cigar Aficionado each scored it 94.

Blue, green or red

  • Red is the original Fuente Fuente OpusX, in our Opus X collection.
  • Blue is the 20 Years Celebration, with a lighter third-priming wrapper.
  • Green is the 25 Aniversario, on a lighter hybrid-seed wrapper.

Fuente told Cigar Aficionado that El Tributo is milder than the red-band OpusX and stronger than the blue-band 20 Years Celebration, and that La Familia, under a slightly darker wrapper, is a bit stronger than El Tributo.

How strong is the Opus X 20th Anniversary?

Fuente has published no strength rating for the blue band, but its own ranking puts it at the mild end. The company told Cigar Aficionado that El Tributo is milder than the red-band OpusX and stronger than the 20 Years Celebration, which leaves the blue band the mildest of the three. That matches its wrapper, a lighter leaf from the third priming rather than the darker upper leaves of standard OpusX.

Which Opus X can you smoke while the anniversary bands are scarce?

Lost City sizes we carry include the Robusto, Double Robusto, Toro, Piramide and Double Robusto Tubo; Opus X Lost City In Stock Now shows today's shelf.

For the red band itself, the Opus X Robusto and No. 77 Baby Shark are in our Opus X cigars collection, beside Opus X Angel's Share, Opus X Oro Oscuro and Opus X Templo de Oro.
