The Gold Star story
Gold Star was first introduced in 1995 and then lay dormant, Cigar Journal reported; Cigar Coop says United has owned the trademark since the 1990s. In 2024 United released a limited 6 x 54 honoring the U.S. Navy SEALs, which raised over $30,000 for the Navy SEAL Gold Star Program, and in 2025 Gold Star became a regular-production line, reaching select retailers in March and launching nationally at the PCA trade show in April. Each cigar is aged a full year before it ships, halfwheel and Cigar Dojo reported.
United gives the blend as an Ecuador Habano 2000 Intermedio wrapper from the Quevedo region over a Sumatra binder, with Dominican ligeros, Criollo '98, Corojo '98 and Connecticut Broadleaf in the filler; Cigar Aficionado and halfwheel identify the binder as Indonesian. Cigar Aficionado reports that United describes the cigar as medium-bodied, and United's release, as quoted by Cigar Dojo, names cocoa, almond, honey and cinnamon. The boxes are matte black, 20 cigars each, with the gold star on the lid and the size printed in gold on the front.
