A name from 1772
The Albertus Hillen cigar factory in Delft, Holland, created Red Anchor in 1772, Cigar Coop reported; the brand stayed in the family until 1890, was sold to Martinus Holland, came in tins in the early 1900s and closed in 1937. United calls it the first cigar brand in history. United revived Red Anchor in 2022 for its 250th anniversary with the Admiral, then added the Gunner and Captain, which shipped in late August 2023, and the Commodore, which followed in late November.
United's 2023 release gives the blend as an Ecuadorian Habano 2000 wrapper over a Dominican Monte Plata binder from the Kelner family farm, with Dominican San Vicente, Dominican Habano '92 and Pennsylvania tobacco in the filler. The cigars come 25 to a cream box with a red anchor on the lid and a sketch of Delft inside it. In May 2023 United opened a Red Anchor Lounge inside Two Guys Smoke Shop in Nashua, New Hampshire.
