Arnold André and Terra Nova
Arnold André is based in Bünde, Germany, and traces its roots to Gebr. André, a tobacco factory founded in Osnabrück in 1817. In 2011 it opened its own factory in the Dominican Republic, where Arnold André Dominicana makes all of its long-filler brands. United began distributing Arnold André in the United States in January 2022, starting with Montosa and Terra Nova, and launched Terra Nova at the TPE trade show that month; United's Oliver Nivaud says Arnold André created Terra Nova for the U.S. market.
The lid labels read “TERRA NOVA,” the blend and the size, over “HECHO A MANO · REPÚBLICA DOMINICANA.” The cigars come in cellophane, 20 to a wooden box with a lift lid: black for the Araperique, orange-red for the Dark Fired Kentucky.

What is Araperique?
The name joins Arapiraca, a Brazilian tobacco, with Perique. A retailer's description of Arnold André's Araperique leaf says it is moistened and then pressed under high pressure in wooden barrels, the way Perique pipe tobacco is, with fermentation lasting over a year; United's launch release described tobaccos aged under high pressure in oak whisky barrels for a year. It is a Perique-style fermentation of Brazilian leaf, not Louisiana Perique. At launch the Araperique blend was described as medium-bodied. The Cigar Authority, a retailer, scored the Araperique Toro 91.25 in February 2026 and rated it mild-plus in strength.
Dark Fired Kentucky
The Dark Fired Kentucky blend adds Kentucky fire-cured tobacco to Dominican, Nicaraguan and Brazilian filler. Cigar Coop found the fire-cured leaf plays a supporting role rather than dominating, and scored the Dark Fired Kentucky Toro 88 in November 2022 with a “Buy One” verdict, medium in strength and body. Blind Man's Puff scored the Belicoso 86 in a blind review, rating it mild-medium and noting construction problems.
The four sizes
Terra Nova launched in 2022 in a Short Robusto, Robusto, Toro and Churchill. The line we carry keeps the first three and adds the Belicoso, the longest size and the only one with a tapered, pointed head.
Common questions
Who makes Terra Nova cigars? Arnold André, at Arnold André Dominicana in the Dominican Republic. United Cigars of Hudson, New Hampshire, distributes Terra Nova in the United States.
Is Araperique the same as Perique? No. Araperique is Brazilian Arapiraca tobacco fermented under pressure the way Perique is, not Louisiana Perique itself.
How strong is Terra Nova? Arnold André has not published a strength rating we could confirm. At launch the Araperique was described as medium-bodied, and The Cigar Authority, a retailer, rated the Araperique Toro mild-plus. Cigar Coop rated the Dark Fired Kentucky Toro medium, and Blind Man's Puff rated the Dark Fired Kentucky Belicoso mild-medium.
What size is the Terra Nova Belicoso? 6 1/2 x 50, as our distributor lists it. Cigar Coop's 2022 size list and Blind Man's Puff's review gave 6 1/4 x 50.
Where can I buy Terra Nova cigars in Yuma, AZ? At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits, 1651 S Arizona Ave, an official J.C. Newman Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge with a walk-in humidor and a full bar. Call 928-276-3500 to ask which Terra Nova sizes are on the shelf today, or see our cigar lounge in Yuma.
