Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series: Sizes, Natural vs. Maduro and Where to Start

Every size of the Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series, Natural vs. Maduro, how it compares to the 1926 Serie, and where to start.

Short answer: the Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series is a box-pressed Nicaraguan puro made from tobacco aged four years, offered in a sun-grown Natural or a Maduro wrapper. If you are buying your first one, start with the Exclusivo (5½ x 50).

What is the Padrón 1964 Anniversary Series?

Padrón introduced the 1964 Anniversary Series in 1994 to mark the company's 30th anniversary. According to Padrón, all tobacco in the line is aged four years, every cigar is box-pressed in the old Cuban tradition, and each one carries an individually numbered band to protect against counterfeits. The line is a Nicaraguan puro: wrapper, binder and filler are all Nicaraguan.

Natural or Maduro?

The blend underneath is the same. The Natural is sun-grown and leans toward coffee, cedar, pepper and toasted nuts. The Maduro is darker and sweeter, with cocoa and espresso. Most smokers find the Maduro slightly richer and the Natural slightly spicier.

The sizes we carry

  • Hermoso — 4 x 56. The short, thick smoke.
  • Exclusivo — 5½ x 50. The classic, and the natural first 1964.
  • Imperial — 6 x 54. A full toro.
  • Torpedo — 6 x 52. The Natural Torpedo was named Cigar Aficionado's No. 1 Cigar of the Year for 2021.
  • Presidente Square Tube — 6 x 50.
  • Piramides — 6⅞ x 52.
  • No. 4 — 6½ x 60. The biggest ring gauge in the line.

1964 Anniversary vs. 1926 Serie

Both are box-pressed Nicaraguan puros with numbered bands. The 1926 Serie was created in 2002 for José Orlando Padrón's 75th birthday and uses tobacco aged five years instead of four. It is fuller and rounder. If the 1964 is the benchmark, the 1926 is the step up.
