A bale of Mexican wrapper

Cigar Aficionado reports that about three years before the release, on a visit to Chateau de la Fuente, Carlos "Carlito" Fuente Jr. showed the magazine a bale of Mexican wrapper, Fuente's first work with Mexican leaf, for what he called a "special project." That project became Sangre de Toro. Fuente previewed it at the 2025 PCA trade show under the Don Carlos name and began shipping the Puro Cojones and Sangre de Bestia #2 in fall 2025; the Undefeated and the Raging Bull #2 followed, and in February 2026 Cigar Aficionado reported that the Robusto had not yet shipped. The boxes carry a charging bull.

Sangre de Toro and the classic Don Carlos

Both carry the Don Carlos name and come from the same factory, but they are different cigars. The classic Arturo Fuente Don Carlos wears an African Cameroon wrapper over Dominican tobacco; Sangre de Toro swaps in dark Mexican San Andrés. For the Don Carlos God of Fire, see God of Fire by Don Carlos. Every Fuente line we carry is on our Arturo Fuente page.

Ratings and tasting notes

Sangre de Bestia #2, 6¼ x 52: Cigar Aficionado scored it 91 in its August 2026 issue and rated it full: a dark, rough-wrapped cigar with strong, earthy and leathery smoke, red pepper, dried fruit and espresso, ending on chocolate-covered raisin. Cigar Insider scored it 91 in May 2026.

Puro Cojones, 5¾ x 54: we found no published rating of this size yet. Across the line, halfwheel scored the 5½ x 46 Undefeated 92 in March 2026, a size we don't carry, finding a bright mixed pepper early over a creamy background, wood and pepper in the middle, and a strong black pepper that sharpened late, medium-plus in body.

Choosing a Sangre de Toro

Sangre de Toro is a full cigar; take it after a meal. Every allocated cigar we have today is on Rare Cigars In Stock Now, and more dark Mexican wrappers from every brand are on maduro cigars.

What to pour with Sangre de Toro

We found no drink pairing from Fuente, so this is our house suggestion: a barrel-proof bourbon or an aged rum, with the weight to stand beside the pepper and espresso, or an espresso after dinner. Our cigar and whiskey pairing guide has more, and in the lounge you can ask the bar for a pour from the spirits menu.

Keeping them fresh

Store them at a steady 65 to 70 percent relative humidity, in a humidor or a sealed bag with a two-way humidity pack. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack, and our cigar storage guide covers the rest.
