The 2020 reblend
Cigar Aficionado reported in January 2020 that Ashton was shipping a reblended, stronger Edición Especial: the wrapper now comes from higher primings, the Garcías grow the tobacco in Estelí, Jalapa and Namanji, and every size comes in boxes of 25. Ashton's Sathya Levin described the new blend to Cigar Aficionado as a little more dynamic, richer and stronger. halfwheel reported that the leaf origins stayed the same, the packaging was updated slightly, and a 6 x 60 joined the line, for six sizes: the No. 1 (5⅝ x 46), No. 2 (5 x 50), No. 3 (6 x 50), No. 4 (7 x 49), No. 5 (5½ x 52) and No. 60 (6 x 60). La Aroma de Cuba debuted in 2002 as a Honduran cigar made by Altadis. Edición Especial came next, a separate version Ashton had José "Pepín" García make, as Cigar Aficionado put it in 2010, and in 2009 Ashton moved the whole brand to the García family. Today the lines run from the mild-medium Connecticut and the medium original, under Connecticut Broadleaf, through Edición Especial and Mi Amor, both medium-full, to the full-bodied Reserva and Noblesse. Ratings and tasting notes
No. 2, 5 x 50: halfwheel scored the 2020 reblend 85. Pepper and spice open the cigar and fade within about ten puffs, leaving creamy cedar and dark chocolate with coffee bean, salted cashew, earth, leather and raisin on the retrohale. A sweet floral note and cinnamon join in the second third, and strength climbs from mild to past medium by the final third.
No. 60, 6 x 60: the size added with the 2020 reblend. We found no review of it; the maker calls the profile zesty and Cubanesque, with cocoa, coffee bean, leather and smoked almond over a measured spice.
