Ashton ESG Cigars

Ashton ESG, short for Estate Sun Grown, is the line Ashton created to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and every size is named as a Year Salute. Ashton says it is made exclusively from irreplaceable reserves of the Fuente family's oldest tobaccos: an all-Dominican blend finished in a rare Dominican sun-grown wrapper, which Cigar Aficionado reports comes from Chateau de la Fuente, the farm that grows the Opus X wrapper. We carry the 23 Year Salute and 24 Year Salute by the single, 5-pack or box from our walk-in humidor in Yuma, Arizona.

The Estate Sun Grown story

Ashton's vice president Sathya Levin told Cigar Aficionado in June 2013 that the line "was originally created to celebrate Ashton's 20th anniversary," and that every size "features an ultra-rare, Dominican sun grown wrapper from Chateau de la Fuente. Due to the rare nature of this wrapper, the cigar will be made in extremely limited quantities." The blend is all Dominican tobacco, rolled in Santiago by Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia., the factory behind Opus X. That same year Ashton announced the fifth size, the 24 Year Salute, a double-tapered perfecto.

Ashton rates ESG medium-full, with graham cracker, cocoa, cedar, molasses and black pepper. Its accolades, as Ashton lists them, include Cigar Aficionado Top 10 Cigars of the Year honors in 2006 and 2014, a Top 25 place in 2011, and 94 points in September 2014.

ESG, VSG or Classic?

  • ESG: a Dominican sun-grown wrapper from Chateau de la Fuente over an all-Dominican blend; medium-full.
  • VSG (Virgin Sun Grown): a sun-grown Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper; Ashton's full-bodied line.
  • Classic: a golden Connecticut Shade wrapper over Dominican binder and filler.

Common questions

What does ESG stand for? Estate Sun Grown.

Who makes Ashton ESG? Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. in Santiago, Dominican Republic, per Cigar Aficionado.

Does Ashton ESG use the Opus X wrapper? It comes from the same farm. Cigar Aficionado reports that the ESG wrapper is grown at Chateau de la Fuente, and that Fuente sells no tobacco from that farm, so only cigars Fuente makes, Ashton ESG among them, carry its leaf.

How much is Ashton ESG? Current prices are in the table above. At our listed prices in October 2026, the 23 Year Salute and 24 Year Salute were each $29.99 a single and $138.99 for a 5-pack.

Can I buy a single? Yes. Both sizes are sold as a single, a 5-pack or a box. $9.99 flat shipping, free on orders of $125 or more.
