Drew Estate 20 Acre Farm Toro cigar

Drew Estate 20 Acre Farm Cigars

Drew Estate 20 Acre Farm cigars from our walk-in humidor in Yuma, Arizona: the Robusto, the Toro and the Gordito. The line is named for the plot in Clermont, Florida, where Jeff Borysiewicz, founder of Corona Cigar Co., grows the Florida Sun Grown tobacco in its filler. Drew Estate blends that leaf with Nicaraguan filler from Estelí and Jalapa, under a Honduran Sun Grown Habano binder and a golden Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper, and rolls it at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Estelí, Nicaragua. Drew Estate rates it medium, with oak, cedar and a subtle orange citrus, and Cigar Aficionado scored the Toro 90. Choose a single, a 5-pack or a box of 20 on each product page.

The farm in Clermont

Cigar Coop reports that Borysiewicz bought a 20-acre plot in Clermont, Florida, in 2013 to revive tobacco growing in the state, which had ended there in 1977. The leaf from that farm is Florida Sun Grown, or FSG. Drew Estate's first line with it was FSG in 2016; 20 Acre Farm was the second national Drew Estate release to use it, and the original FSG cigar returned as a single-store exclusive for Corona Cigar Co. Before its name was public, Cigar Coop reports, 20 Acre Farm reached smokers unbanded, as the mystery cigar in a Freestyle Live kit, and Drew Estate revealed it during a Freestyle Live broadcast.

Cigar Coop lists three regular sizes in boxes of 20, the 5¼ x 54 Robusto, the 6 x 52 Toro and the 6 x 60 Gordito, plus a 7 x 54 Belicoso exclusive to Corona Cigar Co. Drew Estate's current size chart lists the Robusto at 5¼ x 54; halfwheel's launch coverage listed it at 5½ x 54.

Ratings and tasting notes

Toro, 6 x 52: Cigar Aficionado scored it 90 in June 2022 and rated it medium, finding molasses, brown sugar, citrus and vanilla over a cedar core, with a light touch of honey on the finish. Cigar Coop scored it 88 in October 2022: cedar, cream, bing cherry and chocolate early, then earth and black pepper, with cedar taking over in the last third, and strength and body moving from mild-medium to medium.

Robusto, 5¼ x 54: halfwheel found cashew, white pepper and toasted bread early, then cedar, cocoa nibs and leather, and a creamy finish with dark chocolate. Its samples averaged about an hour and a half.

Gordito, 6 x 60: we found no review of this size, the largest of the three.

Choosing a 20 Acre Farm

  • The rated size: the Toro, 6 x 52, 90 points in Cigar Aficionado.
  • The shortest: the Robusto, 5¼ x 54.
  • The wide ring: the Gordito, 6 x 60, the slowest smoke of the three.

For another Drew Estate cigar under Connecticut Shade, see Undercrown Shade; for its Habano blends, Herrera Estelí. More of this wrapper from every brand is on Connecticut Shade cigars, and more medium smokes on medium-bodied cigars.

What to pour with 20 Acre Farm

Drew Estate suggests hibiscus tea or a rye whiskey. From our bar, our house suggestion is a younger rye, whose spice meets the white pepper and citrus without covering the cedar. Our cigar and whiskey pairing guide has more, and in the lounge you can ask the bar for a pour from the spirits menu.

Keeping them fresh

Store them at a steady 65 to 70 percent relative humidity, in a humidor or a sealed bag with a two-way humidity pack. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack, and our cigar storage guide covers the rest.
