Green Chartreuse
Green Chartreuse is a French herbal liqueur made by the Carthusian Monks, created in 1840 from the recipe of the Elixir Végétal de la Grande Chartreuse. It is bottled at 55% ABV (110 proof).
The recipe draws on 130 plants, barks, roots, spices and flowers. The liqueur is distilled at Aiguenoire and aged for a long time in truncated cone-shaped oak vats before bottling. Its nose is powerful, herbal and peppery; the palate turns fresh, with mint, pine sap and citrus, and the finish recalls bittersweet tea. The house suggests serving it chilled or over ice.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (750 mL). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
