Montenegro Amaro
Montenegro Amaro is an Italian amaro created in 1885 by the distiller and herbalist Stanislao Cobianchi, and bottled at 23% ABV (46 proof). It takes its name from Princess Elena of Montenegro, honored on her 1896 marriage to Victor Emmanuel III.
The recipe draws on 40 botanicals, including licorice root, nutmeg and both sweet and bitter oranges. Mandarin and cola open the nose, with fresh coriander and white pepper. The palate begins sweet before turning mildly bitter, showing orange zest, coriander, cherry, vanilla and clove, and the finish stays mildly bitter and citrusy.
At Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits in Yuma, Arizona, we pour it by the glass as a single or a double, with bottles to go (1 L). Our shelf changes as bottles are poured and new ones arrive, so call 928-276-3500 to confirm availability, and ask our team for a cigar from the walk-in humidor to pair with it.
