The three sizes
Special R: Davidoff presents it as a robusto cut a little shorter than usual, 4⅞ x 50. Davidoff lists cedar, cream, roasted nuts and walnut, lifted by herbs, citrus and fresh spice, and cites a 90-point Cigar Aficionado rating and a 91 from Cigar Snob.
No. 3 Tubo: the line's 6 x 50 toro, each in its own aluminum tube. In its March 2015 review of the untubed No. 3, The Cigar Authority found cedar and a honey-like sweetness early, then earth, hay and building spice, and scored it 91.
Double R: the same 50 ring gauge as the Special R, at 7½ inches.
Choosing an Aniversario
- A shorter smoke: the Special R, 4⅞ x 50.
- To carry or to give: the No. 3 Tubo, each toro in its own tube.
- The longest: the Double R, 7½ x 50.
For a gift that includes Aniversario, the Selection White Tubos 3-Pack holds a tubed Signature No. 2, Signature 2000 and Aniversario Special R, and the 6 Cigar Gift Selection Figurado includes an Aniversario figurado.
What to pour with Davidoff Aniversario
Our cigar and whiskey pairing guide keeps a simple house rule: mild with mild, medium with medium, full with full. With the Special R at 2.5 of Davidoff's 5, our house suggestion is a lighter pour, a whiskey in the 80s or low 90s proof. In the lounge, ask the bar for a pour from the spirits menu.
Keeping them fresh
Store them at a steady 65 to 70 percent relative humidity, in a humidor or a sealed bag with a two-way humidity pack; leave tubed cigars in their tubes until you smoke them. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack, and our cigar storage guide covers the rest.
