Church Warden HIS PIPES
Church Warden HIS PIPES is a churchwarden-style tobacco pipe, the classic long-stem shape, available from Sun of a Gun Cigars & Spirits, an official J.C. Newman Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge in Yuma, Arizona.
A churchwarden is defined by its stem, which usually runs about 9 to 18 inches and can be straight or bent. The earliest were clay; briar came later. Many smokers credit the long stem with a cooler smoke, and it also keeps smoke away from the eyes. The German name, Lesepfeife, means "reading pipe."
- Style: Churchwarden (long-stem) tobacco pipe
How to enjoy it
As a general guide, fill the bowl in three stages, lightly at the bottom and firmer toward the top, give it a first light, tamp the risen tobacco down and relight. The long stem makes this a pipe for the armchair or the porch rather than the pocket. Pipe cleaners long enough to run the full length of the stem keep the draw clear; let the pipe cool completely before cleaning it. Our loose pipe tobacco comes by the 2 oz bag in several flavors, the Colibri Pacific Air is a dedicated pipe lighter with a built-in tamper, and our pipe tobacco guide covers blends for beginners.
