How The Late Hour came about
Davidoff unveiled its rebuilt Winston Churchill line in December 2014 and shipped it in early 2015, replacing a 2007 cigar of the same name. The Late Hour Series, the second Winston Churchill blend since that relaunch, was announced in June 2017 and reached regular production that August. The Late Hour Petit Panetela began in 2020 as a limited run for markets outside the U.S. and became a regular-production cigar in January 2024; Davidoff puts its smoking time at 15 to 20 minutes. The Late Hour Series also gained its own Belicoso in January 2026, which we don't list online. The Original Series is on Davidoff Winston Churchill.
Ratings and tasting notes
Robusto, 5 x 52: Cigar Coop scored it 90 in October 2017, finding charred wood, earth, grass and white pepper. Davidoff cites a 91 from Cigar Snob and a 93 from Cigar Dojo.
Toro, 6 x 54: the line's 4.5-intensity size by Davidoff's rating, with the same notes of spice, black coffee, leather and dark chocolate over a longer smoke.
Petit Panetela, 4 x 38: halfwheel scored it 92, finding cocoa nibs up front, early anise and a growing floral sweetness, with oak, roasted peanuts and citrus peel. Davidoff rates its body 5 out of 5.
Churchill, 7 x 48: a size we don't list online, which Cigar Aficionado scored 91 in August 2026 and rated medium-full, with cumin, white pepper and rock salt over an earthy smoke and a sweeter side of dried fruit and brown sugar.

Choosing a size
- The classic format: the Robusto, 5 x 52, intensity 4 of 5.
- The fuller one: the Toro, 6 x 54, intensity 4.5 of 5.
- 15 to 20 minutes: the Petit Panetela, five to a tin. More small formats are on cigar tins and cigarillos.
The Late Hour or The Original Series
Both share the Mexican San Andrés Negro binder. The Original Series wears an Ecuadorian Rojiza wrapper over a five-leaf filler of three Dominican and two Nicaraguan tobaccos, and Davidoff nicknames its Robusto "The Statesman"; The Late Hour swaps in the darker Habano Oscuro wrapper and the Scotch-barrel Condega leaf. We carry the Original in the Robusto, Toro and Churchill and a Petit Panetela tin; both series are on Davidoff Winston Churchill, and every Davidoff line on Davidoff cigars.
What to pour with The Late Hour
The Scotch-barrel leaf in the filler points the way, so our house suggestion is a Speyside single malt, such as the Glenlivet 12 or the Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak, to echo the barrels that held the Condega leaf. A bourbon or an espresso works too. Our Scotch and cigar pairing guide goes further, and in the lounge you can ask the bar for a pour from the spirits menu.
Keeping them fresh
Store them at a steady 65 to 70 percent relative humidity, in a humidor or a sealed bag with a two-way humidity pack. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack, and our cigar storage guide covers the rest.
