Diamond Crown Black Diamond Marquise cigar

Diamond Crown Black Diamond Cigars

Black Diamond is the fullest cigar in the Diamond Crown family. J.C. Newman unveiled it in July 2016 as a limited-production line, sent first to select Diamond Crown Cigar Lounges, with a Black Friday release to the lounges that November. Tabacalera A. Fuente rolls it in the Dominican Republic, with Dominican binder and filler grown on a four-acre section of the Fuente family's Chateau de la Fuente farm and aged five years, under a dark, sun-grown Connecticut Havana-seed wrapper. J.C. Newman rates it full.

About Diamond Crown Black Diamond Cigars

In 2022 Drew Newman reworked it: the blend was strengthened and refined and the packaging redesigned, while the sizes, box count and price stayed the same. "I was not satisfied and wanted to make them better," he told Cigar Dojo. We carry all three sizes from our walk-in humidor in Yuma, Arizona, where Sun of a Gun is an official Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge.

What to pour with Black Diamond

J.C. Newman publishes no pairing, so this is our house suggestion from the bar: a caramel-forward bourbon or a rye. More in the bourbon and cigar pairing guide.

Connecticut wrappers: Shade, Broadleaf and Havana seed

Three wrapper types carry the Connecticut name, and the Diamond Crown family uses each of them. Connecticut Shade is grown under cloth tents that soften the sun, giving a thin, pale-gold, mild leaf; it wraps Diamond Crown Classic. Connecticut Broadleaf grows in full sun, thicker and veinier, and is usually fermented dark; it wraps Diamond Crown Maduro. Connecticut Havana seed is a Cuban-seed variety grown in the same river valley, and it is the wrapper on Black Diamond: a dark, sun-grown leaf over Dominican binder and filler from Chateau de la Fuente, aged five years.

Black Diamond and the Diamond Crown Cigar Lounges

J.C. Newman began sponsoring Diamond Crown Cigar Lounges at premium cigar retailers in 2008, and its lounge list includes Sun of a Gun at 1651 S Arizona Ave in Yuma. Black Diamond reached those lounges first: J.C. Newman unveiled it in July 2016 and sent it to select Diamond Crown Cigar Lounges ahead of a Black Friday release that November. As an official J.C. Newman Diamond Crown Cigar Lounge, we keep all three sizes in our walk-in humidor, beside the rest of the Diamond Crown family, including the lounge-only Julius Caeser 1895.
