Don Pepin Garcia Cuban Classic cigars from our walk-in humidor in Yuma, Arizona: the 1979 Robusto, the 2001 Toro Gordo and the limited Clásico 20th Anniversary. My Father Cigars calls Cuban Classic the first blend made at the Garcías' factory in Nicaragua; halfwheel says it was introduced in 2006, that "Cuban Classic has always been made in Nicaragua," and that it is often called the Don Pepín Black. My Father lists a butternut-brown Habano-Rosado wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler, finished with a triple cap, and calls it "a Medium to Full-Bodied cigar." The 1979 was No. 17 on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 of 2007. Choose a single, a 5-pack or a box of 20 on each product page.

Don Pepin Garcia and El Rey de los Habanos
José "Pepin" García was born in Cuba in 1950 and rolled his first cigar at 11, says My Father Cigars, his family's company. In 2003 he opened a small Miami factory, El Rey de los Habanos, with his son Jaime and daughter Janny; Cigar Aficionado placed it on Calle Ocho in Little Havana. The family's Nicaraguan factory, My Father Cigars S.A., is in Estelí; My Father says the family moved its operation there in 2009, and Cigar Aficionado inducted Pepin into its Hall of Fame in 2022. Every Don Pepin Garcia line we carry, the Original (Blue Label), Series JJ, Cuban Classic, Vegas Cubanas and E.R.H., is compared on our Don Pepin Garcia page, and the family's own brand is on My Father Cigars.
The Clásico 20th Anniversary
The Clásico 20th Anniversary (2026) marks 20 years of the Cuban Classic: a 6½ x 52 toro extra, released in April 2026 and limited to 2,500 boxes of 20, halfwheel reports. We sell it by the single and the 5-pack. To try Cuban Classic beside four other García family cigars, the My Father Humidified Sampler Bag 2 holds five My Father toros (6 x 50) in one humidified bag, and our listing names a Cuban Classic among them.

Ratings and tasting notes
1979 Robusto, 5 x 50: No. 17 on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 of 2007, at 92 points: "It has lots of wood, leather and toasted almonds on the palate." The most recent Cigar Aficionado rating we found, 89 in April 2017, rated it medium-full. Reviewing this size, Cigar Inspector's DrFever found pepper, unsweetened coffee, leather and cocoa early, then black cherry, dried fruit and toasted caramel, closing on cedar and dark chocolate; Stogie Press (October 2014) noted a peppery, leathery start and a buttery middle with cherry and nuts.
2001 Toro Gordo, 6 x 60: we found no Cigar Aficionado rating for the 2001. At a 60 ring it is a long, slow smoke; give the wide foot a patient, even toast.
Choosing a Cuban Classic
- The Top 25 size: the 1979 Robusto, 5 x 50, from $9.99 a single. Its triple cap takes a clean straight cut just above the cap line.
- The wide ring: the 2001 Toro Gordo, 6 x 60.
- The limited edition: the Clásico 20th Anniversary, 2,500 boxes made.
For the full-bodied Blue Label, see Don Pepin Garcia Original. More Nicaraguan tobacco from every brand is on Nicaraguan cigars, and more Habano wrappers on Habano cigars.
What to pour with Cuban Classic
We found no drink pairing from My Father Cigars, so this is our house suggestion: an aged rum or a sherry-cask Scotch beside the cocoa and nut notes, or a café Cubano with the 1979 in the afternoon. A bourbon works too. Our cigar and whiskey pairing guide has more, and in the lounge you can ask the bar for a pour from the spirits menu.
Keeping them fresh
Store them at a steady 65 to 70 percent relative humidity, in a humidor or a sealed bag with a two-way humidity pack. Every order ships with a Boveda humidity pack, and our cigar storage guide covers the rest.
