From Premium Line to the 2025 Suave

The 1994 Premium Line was a mild Dominican blend in a light Connecticut shade wrapper, Cigar Aficionado reports, and La Flor Dominicana still calls Suave "Our first blend." LFD renamed it LFD Light in 2012, and it came to be sold as Suave. For 2025 the company reblended the line and redesigned its packaging; Litto Gomez told Cigar Aficionado the question was what the cigar would have been "if we could go back to day one knowing everything we know now." halfwheel reports the new Suave began shipping in early September 2025, in red-and-gold bands and boxes with a Paso Fino horse at the center; earlier Suave boxes were largely plain black wood. La Flor Dominicana's own site still describes the earlier Connecticut shade blend, and boxes on store shelves may be either version, so the packaging is the way to tell them apart.

Máximo: halfwheel scored the 2025 Suave Natural Máximo 91 in October 2025: mild in strength but full of flavor, creamy and smoky, with black pepper and a campfire note that builds through the cigar.

Grand Maduro No. 5: Cigar Insider scored it 90 in November 2025, with earth from first puff to last, plus black pepper, oak and roasted coffee.

Maceo, the size in the Suave Tubo: Cigar Insider scored the 2025 Maceo 90 in November 2025, and Cigar Aficionado scored it 90 again in April 2026.

Choosing a Suave

• The toro: the Máximo, 6 x 54, the size halfwheel scored 91.
• The widest: the Gobernador, 6¼ x 60, the largest of the three Natural sizes.
• For the road: the Suave Tubo, the 5 x 48 Maceo sealed in its own tube for travel, the golf bag or a gift.
• The darker one: the Grand Maduro No. 5, box-pressed under Mexican San Andrés.
