Emissary is Macanudo's series built on some of the world's most luxurious tobaccos, and each blend is built around a European leaf: España around Havana-seed tobacco grown near Riolobos, Spain, and France around filler grown in the Mugron River Valley, south of Bordeaux. España: Havana seed from Spain
España is Emissary's five-country blend, centered on Havana-seed tobacco grown near Riolobos, Spain, and aged ten years. Macanudo credits the rocky soil and Mediterranean climate around Riolobos, where the leaf grows near olive trees and paprika fields, for its thick, oily character. A five-year-aged U.S. Broadleaf Claro wrapper covers a six-year-aged Nicaraguan Condega binder and filler of Dominican Piloto, Colombian, Nicaraguan ASP and the Spanish leaf. Macanudo lists four España sizes: a 5 x 52 Robusto, the 6 x 52 Toro we carry, a 6 x 54 Perfecto and a 7 x 48 Churchill.
France: leaf from south of Bordeaux
Emissary France followed España in March 2025 as a regular-production line. Its signature leaf is a four-year-aged filler from France's Mugron River Valley, south of Bordeaux, joined by 10-year Dominican Piloto, seven-year Brazilian Arapiraca and eight-year U.S. Broadleaf inside a 10-year Connecticut Broadleaf binder, all under a 10-year-aged Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. General Cigar packs it in boxes of 16, and Cigar Insider rated the Toro 91 points in June 2025.

The two Toros are the same 6 x 52 and the same price, so the choice is the leaf. España wears a U.S. Broadleaf Claro wrapper, and the aged Spanish leaf lends a rounded, savory sweetness: cedar, almonds, caramel and espresso. France wears a 10-year Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and leans to baking spice, nutmeg and clove, over wood and toffee. Smoke them side by side to taste what the European leaf does in each.
