Double Ligero is La Flor Dominicana's ligero-heavy line. In the maker's words it is estate-grown Dominican filler and binder wrapped in dark Ecuadorian Sumatra sun-grown leaves, and every size is also made in maduro. Ligero is the strongest type of filler tobacco, Cigar Aficionado noted in 2005, and in 2018 the magazine wrote that the words "Double Ligero" are "as much a warning as they are a descriptor." The magazine ties the line's tobacco to Litto Gomez's La Canela farm, and the cigars are made by Tabacalera La Flor in Tamboril, Dominican Republic.

About La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero
halfwheel dates the line to 2003, the year La Flor released the Chisel, the wedge-headed shape Cigar Aficionado says took ten months to get right. In a 2013 Cigar Aficionado interview, Litto Gomez named the Double Ligero 700 as the company's top-selling cigar. Double Ligero sizes have made Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 at least seven times, among them the Chisel Maduro we carry, No. 14 for 2007 at 92 points.

What to pour with Double Ligero
La Flor publishes no pairing, so this is our house rule: a full cigar wants a full pour. Our bourbon guide sets a bottled-in-bond or barrel-proof bourbon beside a full-bodied cigar, and notes that bourbons with more rye stand up to fuller, peppery cigars; a rye works too. With the maduros, our whiskey guide pairs a sherry-cask Scotch or an aged rum; from our bar, we suggest the Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak.
